NSCA member Doug Tolley acquired this antique register as part of a scrip purchase he made in 2006. Doug was able to return the machine to beautiful working condition by having the internal parts steam cleaned at Phillips Machine’s repair shop. The exterior was sand-blasted, primed, and painted at a local auto detailers. The result is a stunningly restored piece of scrip history.
Doug reports that the reassembly of the internal mechanisms was quite an adventure. “It has thousands of pieces, including moving parts and springs, and all it did was stamp a card for a man and the company on how much scrip he got. Can you imagine inventing such a contraption, when you could do just as well with a cigar box and a hole puncher?!”
